20220620 Florida Division of Emergency Management announces more than $2 million in funding for relief for residents affected by Southwest Florida tornadoes through the state’s donation portal and US Small Business Administration

Today, the Florida Division of Emergency Management (FDEM) announced that more than $2 million in disaster relief funds have been provided to residents and businesses affected by tornadoes in Southwest Florida. Florida in January 2022 through charitable donations and disaster loans from the US Small Business Administration (SBA). .

After the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) denial of Florida’s call for individual assistance on April 24, 2022, Governor DeSantis directed FDEM to seek an SBA disaster declaration.

“The SBA’s disaster declaration and state donation portal has provided much needed relief to those affected as they continue to rebuild from this inclement weather,” said Director of the FDEM, Kevin Guthrie. “The Division will continue to work with our local partners to ensure disaster survivors have access to all available recovery resources and become more resilient to the impacts of future disasters.”

This declaration was granted in May and offers residents and businesses in Collier, Charlotte, Hendry, Glades and Lee counties assistance in the form of low-interest loans.

Disaster loan applicants can continue to apply online or download the application using the Electronic Loan Application through the SBA’s secure website at DisasterLoan.SBA.gov. Completed loan applications must be submitted to the SBA by July 1, 2022 for physical disaster loans and February 2, 2023 for economic disaster loans.

On February 22, 2022, the State of Florida launched a donation portal in partnership with the Charlotte Community Foundation collect and donate for disaster survivors. All donations made through the FloridaDisaster.org/Support portal are tax deductible.
