Calls to March for Life, Gainesville Roads, Florida Farm Bureau, etc.

• Every year, there are exponentially more people marching in the March for Life than there were in the anti-abortion protests [last] weekend, but coverage is minimal. Just because the press isn’t covering something doesn’t mean it isn’t happening.

• I find it suspicious that the draft opinion of Roe v. Wade was leaked just before Mother’s Day. I hope women will appreciate the fact that their mothers chose to have them.

• Recently you had an article written and a Sound Off statement about voters not voting for road repairs. May I remind everyone that in every instance where this was put to a vote, the city of Gainesville began to incorporate other factors that were unrelated to road repairs, such as bike lanes , and, in each case, the voters made it very clear that they did not want to do this.

• The mission of the Florida Farm Bureau is now to transition farmland to development. It would be an interesting study for a journalist to know precisely how development influences and operates on the structure and function of the Florida Farm Bureau. I gave up my membership a long time ago.

• We need term limits for each elected official. We need to have an accounting of how much money they make, which includes not only their paychecks, but the value of the benefits they receive as well.

• The conservative wing of the US Supreme Court got it wrong again. Under the guise of freedom of speech, politicians can now use their own funds for campaigns, repay themselves later with donations, and open the door to corruption to seek “loans” from dark sources of money, which could never to be repaid, making them increasingly beholden to the influence of the big bucks rather than “we the people”.

• The current Putin-Trump wing of the Republican Party is morally bankrupt. Immediately after the Jan. 6 uprising, House Speaker Kevin McCarthy admitted that Trump should resign, be impeached, or be removed under the 25th Amendment. Weeks later, he voted the opposite, putting Trump above America, the Constitution, and his oath of office.

• We share all of the planet’s resources with all living beings. Our cultural detachment from our identity is not part of nature. Is it part of nature to think that we are separate entities? It is a useless, exploitative and destructive delight. We have abdicated our personal and collective responsibilities for the resources we have used and are using. Freedom without responsibility is death.
